As the western-most County of the Republic of Croatia, Istria borders Slovenia and shares a maritime border with Italy. This peninsula is considered one of the largest green oases of the northern Mediterranean, and is one of the most attractive Mediterranean destinations in terms of number of visitors.
The Larun peninsula is located within the north-western part of the Istrian peninsula between the Poreč and Novigrad tourist centres, in one of the most attractive parts of the Tar-Vabriga Municipality on a slight incline that provides excellent sea views within easy reach of 4 international airports (Pula approx. 60 km, Venice approx. 240 km, Ljubljana approx. 170 km and Zagreb approx. 290 km).
The location is well connected to Western Europe and continental Croatia by a network of district roads and the “Istrian Y” Motorway.
Thanks to its seaside location this site is suitable for the development of tourism facilities and, due to its mild Mediterranean climate, it is particularly suitable for sports and recreational facilities, in particular golf courses, as golf can be played almost all year round.
Currently Istria is considered Croatia’s pre-eminent golf destination, as 2 out of 4 golf courses in Croatia are located in Istria.
In accordance with Tar-Vabriga Municipality’s Spatial Development Plan and the Larun Golf Urban Plan for Construction Area Development, the planned construction works of the (R1) Golf Course’s sporting and recreational facilities are planned to include associated and auxiliary facilities, such as a golf course, a driving range, a club house, a golf academy, golf servicing services, commercial facilities, an archaeological park, accommodation facilities for 1,200 people and an olive grove. In addition to this the Project’s area is set to include all necessary infrastructure, such as public roads and parking.
The Project’s area also features the Loron Archaeological Site, which is a protected cultural asset registered in the Register of Cultural Goods of Croatia.
In order that this cultural asset can be valorised and explored as a tourist attraction, it is planned that the Loron Archaeological Site is to be integrated into the Project itself. A heliport is planned at a distance of 800 metres to improve Istria’s connectivity, and approval for this has already been granted by the County.
The Project was included on the Republic of Croatia’s List of Potential Strategic Projects and on the Republic of Croatia’s Ministry of Tourism’s List of Priority Projects.
The Project can apply for development incentives on the basis of the Investment Promotion Act’
